Eta Omega Tau Sorority, Incorporated was founded on April 24, 1990 on the New York City Campus of Pace University by 16 insightful and independent women of various cultural and ethnic backgrounds. Our founding sisters foresaw a need to create a sisterhood which would welcome members from all social aspects. Our founding mothers had a vision for a Sisterhood which would welcome members from all cultural and social backgrounds. A Sisterhood which would induct members based on their dedication and motivation rather than other means. Our 16 founding sisters proved and accomplished their dream by creating a Sisterhood which would promote the accomplishments of all women rather than focusing on a certain culture. A Strong Sorority was created and solidified in what is known as a "commuter university" in the largest urban city in the world. An organization based on the love of sisterhood and on the pride of being individuals was deemed as necessary by these women and the dream was achieved with the creation of Eta Omega Tau Sorority, Inc. With the induction of each new sister we have all fortified and strengthened the dream to spread the goals indicated by our Mission Statement to all who interact with the "True Queens of the Pink and the Black". The key to the meaning of Eta Omega Tau are our sisters. Each sister contributes a characteristic of herself thus, strengthening our values, our meaning and most importantly, our bond to one another. This is particularly evident when you see us together, for there is nothing which can tear us apart. "Sisters Are Forever Sisters of the Heart"
The sisters of Eta Omega Tau Sorority, Incorporated strive in our everyday endeavors to promote the very goals which brought us together. Our goals are Service, Professionalism, and Sisterhood.
While ensuring that the college experience be fun for all, the Eta Omega Tau sisters always remember to help those less fortunate than us. We have participated in numerous volunteer activities such as Soup Kitchens, Toys for Tots, Book Drives, Catholic Charities of New York City, Penny Drives to Benefit Covenant House, and Bake Sales to name but a few of our efforts in helping others. We are currently piloting a mentorship program with New York City Public High Schools known as the Eta Omega Tau Cupids (Community Unification Program In Development Services). We also co-sponsored the televised event of 1998 known as "Hug - Don't Hit - 1998" which was a rally by Pace University students in front of City Hall denouncing the maltreatment of children. We were assisted in this event by great political figures such as Bronx Borough President Fernando Ferrer, Public Advocate Mark Green, and Councilman Sal Albanese.
As a declared social and service Greek organization, our events are highly diversified. Whether we are hosting dances, psychic fairs, poetry slams, lectures; the Queens of Pink and Black are always together and united - always portraying the very values instilled in us by our founding sisters. Since our creation, we have sponsored numerous high-quality educational events for both men and women. By trying to create a sense of social awareness in young college adults, we have participated in "Rap Da' Vote". By enlightening our minds and souls, through the experiences of those before us, we have sponsored educational and motivational events such as lectures from the great author, Maya Angelou and the late Betty Shabazz, both of which caused a great sense of female pride. | ||||
